MF16080
USB Data Acquisition System
The
MF16080 USB data acquisition card series feature
- 16 analog inputs with 12 bit
resolution
at 100kHz sum
sample rate
- Single-ended or differential inputs
- 8 analog
output channels using 8 seperate DACs with 12 bit resolution
- 10 digital I/O ports
- Available in extended temperature range -40°C ..
+105°C (-40F .. +220F)
It is one of the most
versatile, smallest and lightweightest USB data acquisition systems
available.
Features
- Low power design - USB bus powered
- Aluminum enclosure: lightweight, excellent
shielding, maximum
stability
and durability - even under extreme thermal conditions of
>100°C!
- Standard connectors: Mini USB connector
for USB, 37 pole DSUB connector for analog I/O and ports. No proprietary cables and
connectors
needed!
- 5V sensor power supply
- Available in 5 versions:
- MF16084: 4V / +-2V
- MF16081: 10V / +-5V
- MF16082: 24V / +-12V maximum input voltage
- MF16084-MA: 20mA current inputs
- MF16080: custom made versions
- Signal conditioning with channel-seperated low or high
pass filters.
- Combinations of input voltage ranges, i.e. 8 x 20mA, 8
x 4V
- All parts are integrated into the card
- Nearly simultaneous sampling: design guarantees
a small and constant delay between adjacent channels during a
multichannel data capture, even though only one ADC is used. This
results in constant phase delays between signals regardless of the
sample rate.
- Operating systems Windows® 98/Me, Windows®
2000, Windows® XP, Windows® VistaTM.
- Programming language support (see PCDAQ Driver for detailed
information):
- Microsoft® Visual C++®
- Microsoft® Visual Basic®
- Microsoft® .NET / Visual C#
- Agilent VEE
- Borland Delphi
- National Instruments LabVIEW
- TransEra HTBasic
Options:
- Custom input configuration: You need a special input
voltage range? Lowpass or highpass filter? We can tailor the card to
your needs, for your measurement system remains compact.
.
- System capability: The card can be equipped with an
expansion port for
daisy-chaining multiple cards. In contrast to plugging multiple
devices into USB ports, the timing between the cards stays fixed
and well-defined. Up to 4 cards can be connected to act like one card
with a maximum of 64 analog inputs, 32 analog outputs and 40 digital
I/O
ports. All cards need to use only one USB connection.

Software
Professional hardware must be accompanied by
excellent
software to
provide a user-friendly system.
The PCDAQ Driver
that has
been well-known for years in the PCMCIA card range supports the MF16080
as well. It provides the driver and the Online manual in PDF and HTML
formats.
It supports application development using Microsoft®
Visual
C++®,
Microsoft® Visual Basic®, Agilent VEE, Borland Delphi,
National
Instruments LabVIEW and TransEra HTBasic. The programming interface is
retained from the PCMCIA card range – no surprises in
programming the
card.
A ready to run data logger / oscilloscope application is
available with PCDAQ
Scope. It
is not only a data logger but also a powerful tool for analyzing
data -
thanks to the ability to post-process the captured data up to 1 billion
samples using complex formulas, data reduction methods and signal
processing in up to 4 seperate graphical views.
Design details

The card internally uses a high speed SPI bus for
connecting the different parts of the data acquisition system together.
The analog input signals are scaled down to the
ADCs native voltage range. The ADC has an internal FIFO
allowing
to execute a complete scan on its own. The accuracy of a measurement is
enhanced by an on-board temperature sensor with 1/8 K resolution.
Data is then transferred into the Controller's FIFO buffer,
finally via USB at high priority into a huge FIFO buffer inside the
PCDAQ Driver. This FIFO is designed not to loose data even if the
application is not capable of reading data for a few seconds. Readings
are scaled if necessary and then transferred to the application.
Analog output signals are generated by eight seperate DACs.
Due to the
high accuracy they are well suited to create output signals as well as
sensor supply voltages. This makes the card well suited for closed loop
applications.
The MF16080/16084 cards include a low power reference voltage
source for obtaining reproducable measurements - for ADC and DACs.
The digital I/O ports provide TTL/CMOS compatible inputs. The
outputs operate at TTL levels. 6 ports can source up to 4mA.
The
other 4 outputs can source up to 15mA. This
enables them to supply LEDs directly, to directly connect to reed
relais and to
other devices requiring higher operation currents.
